cassandra's lament

"Nobody could have predicted" is what they always say.

I must be Nobody then, she who could and did predict it.

It was slick Apollo what did this;
Took me up to the temple -- his place o' bizness

And his snakes licked out
The insides of my ears, so now I hear
Everything as it will happen.

But when I turned engorged Apollo down,
And he got sore, as men will do.

He laid the curse on with a face full of frowns,
Now nobody believes me, though my prophecy's true.

That's why nobody knows more than the experts do.
